So we continue. The boy reached his third birthday. Monumentous when you think about all that he has gone through in his life.
Birthdays are always very tricky for Atticus. He struggles with his brothers, and we tend to steer him away from parties which are planned for his brother because I would have to give so much of my time dealing with things for him; that his brother wouldn’t have the best time.
Regardless. we sent out invites; people came. The celebrated, they sang happy birthday ( if not somewhat quietly in case he reacted in a non A typical way) and we ate cake.
We are blessed with the people in our lives who share our experiences and our joys. They all trickled into the house and Atticus coped tremendously well. I was amazed. Yet another time when Atticus and his needs were far outweighed by the utter joy that was evident on his face when all his special friends and family, who have been a consistency in his life, came to see him and celebrate with him.
A memory that we shall cherish.
